Dr. Madhav Narayan Shrestha holds Ph.D. degree in Environmental Water Resource from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, India (2002), Master degree in Water Resource Engineering (1990) from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand and Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from University of Roorkee, India (1988).

Dr. Shrestha joined AITM in 2013 as Program Coordinator and Senior Faculty in B.E. Civil Undergraduate Program of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Currently, he is the Deputy Executive Director of AITM, Chairperson of Academic Committee in the School of Science and Technology, AITM, & Senior Faculty. Dr. Shrestha has more than thirty years professional and academic experience. Before joining AITM, he worked as a Team Leader in ADB funded water supply and sanitation project, Senior Consultant in SNV Nepal, Team Leader/Branch Manager in KUKL & Nepal Water Supply Corporation, and in other development projects of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

Dr. Shrestha, a recipient of several awards, is a reviewer of peer-reviewed papers and author/co-author of more than 20 referred papers in international and national journals. His areas of contribution include environmental water resources system analysis/modeling, water supply operation and management system, climate change adaptation and mitigation analysis in water management system, groundwater development and management, GIS and remote sensing application in water resources management, and research proposal reviewer/evaluator, among others.
