AITM Team Participated in “Climate Launchpad Global Grand Final 2018” Competition in Edinburgh, Scotland

The “Climate Launchpad” (https://climatelaunchpad.org) is the world’s largest green business ideas competition. The competition is a platform for clean-tech talents to help them grow their sustainable ideas into global businesses to combat climate change.

The global grand final of “Climate Launchpad-2018” event was held in Edinburgh, Scotland, from November 1 to 2, 2018 with the focus on fixing climate change. This year’s competition attracted a record number of 1,500 clean-tech entrepreneurs through the national competitions organized in forty-four countries around the world.

The “Climate Launchpad National Competition” was organized for the first time in Nepal in 2018, and the final competition of the event was conducted on 7th September 2018 in hotel Yak & Yeti. A two-member team (Er. Prakash Dulal and Mr. Pravakar Pradhan) from AITM took part in the competition, won the second position and became eligible to participate in the grand final competition held in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. The theme of AITM team in the competition was “Energy Efficient Brick” (EEBrick). The AITM team together with other two winner teams from Nepal represented Nepal in the grand final event held on the 1st and 2nd November 2018 in Edinburgh, UK. Altogether 132 teams from 44 countries competed in the grand final event in UK.

The “Climate Launchpad Global Grand Final-2018” event was truly a conversation platform for more than 700 participants including professionals, policy makers and business persons from around the world for fixing climate change. Building clean-tech start-up ecosystems, funding for start-ups that are tackling climate change, and alumni sharing lessons on starting a business were some of the themes included in keynote talks, expert sessions and interactive talks in the grand final event.

The “Green Start-Up ECO2Blocks” from Portugal won the first position in the grand final. The first winner team is starting a business of masonry block production using one hundred percent industrial waste materials, carbon dioxide and non-potable water. “JSP India” won the second position in the competition for their idea of treating textile industry effluent using microbial fuel cell technology. Similarly, the third prize was given to “Crover” from Scotland, UK for their idea of reducing grain wastage using their patent-pending technology to monitor grain storage sites. The cash prizes for the first, second and third winners were ten thousand, five thousand and two thousand five hundred British Pounds respectively. Moreover, the top ten finalists of the grand final event are getting access to “Climate-KIC Accelerator”, the world’s first 18-month business school for clean-tech entrepreneurs, to further develop their innovations and fast-track the businesses.
