AITM Team Wins “ClimateLaunchpad Nepal-2018” National Competition

“ClimateLaunchpad”, founded by Mr. Frans Nauta in 2014, is the world’s largest green business idea competition, and the event is organized every year with the aim of addressing negative impacts of climate change through innovation and invention. It is a platform for clean-tech talents to help them grow their sustainable idea into global business to combat climate change. It’s headquarter is located in the Netherland. “ClimateLaunchpad” is introduced in Nepal for the first time in 2018.

The event is completed in two levels, namely (a) National competition and (b) Grand final competition. The national competition is conducted with participants within a particular country while the grand final is conducted with the winners from all the participating countries.

There were total fifty-eight applicants in this year’s national competition in Nepal, Mr. Prakash Dulal and Mr. Pravakar Pradhan (faculties of Civil Engineering Department) represented AITM in the competition and presented their ideas on “Energy Efficient Bricks” (EE Brick) under “Sustainable Construction Material” theme. Twelve of the fifty-eight business ideas were selected for the competition in the first screening and AITM’s business idea was one of them. The selected teams were coached by trainers for further refining their ideas and presentations in three different sessions. The first session was conducted in Hotel Himalaya on August 17 and 18, 2018. Similarly, the second and the third sessions were conducted in Summit Hotel on August 23 and 24, and in Greenwich Village Hotel on September 02, 2018, respectively. The national final competition in Nepal among the twelve competitor teams was organized on September 07, 2018 in Hotel Yak and Yeti, three of them were declared the winners of “ClimateLaunchpad Nepal-2018” and AITM team won the second place in the competition.

The “ClimateLaunchpad Global Final” competition will be held on November 1 and 2, 2018 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the national winners from forty-seven countries will compete for the first three positions. The first, second and third winners in the grand final competition will be awarded ten thousand, five thousand and two thousand five hundred Euros respectively and get access to further investment to launch their businesses. Furthermore, the top ten competitors will get direct access to “Climate-KIC Accelerator” (Climate-Knowledge and Innovation Center Accelerator). Mr. Prakash Dulal and Mr. Pravakar Pradhan are now preparing to participate in the “Grand Final” competition of “ClimateLaunchpad-2018” global event to be held on November 1 and 2 in Scotland.
