National groundwater symposium on “challenges and opportunities for sustainable management of groundwater resources of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal” was first initiated by Center of Research for Environment Energy and Water (CREEW) in 2009 with the aim of providing a platform to share, discuss, learn and synthesize latest knowledge, understanding and issues on groundwater management in Kathmandu Valley.

Asian Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) became a part of the forth episode of the event that was held in March 22, 2013 at Hotel Himalaya, Kupondole, Lalitpur, Nepal. The symposium was held to commemorate the “World Water Day 2013”. Mr. Pramod Pradhan, the Director of AITM, also made a presentation on “Rainwater for aquifer recharge: the Rotary Club Yala experience”. Other collaborators of the symposium include the Government of Nepal, Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO), The Small Earth Nepal (SEN), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), International Research Center for River Basin Environment at University of Yamanashi (ICRE-UY) in Japan, USAID, UNICEF, and UNDP, among others.

 

Over 90 participants from 40 organizations/institutes including delegates from the Ministry of Irrigation, Ministry of Energy, INGOs, NGOs, UN Agencies, water service providers, universities and practitioners/professionals working in the field attended the symposium.
