AITM News and Events >> Earthquake Reconstruction Site Field Research Conducted by Aalto University (Finland) and AITM Students’ Joint Team.

A joint team of Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland) graduate students and AITM Civil Engineering students led by Ms. Kristijana Adalgeirsdottir (faculty, mentor and team leader) conducted a field research on “The Relation between Communication Practices and Knowledge Adoption of Sustainable Solutions in Nepal” as part of Aalto University graduate course under “Sustainable Global Technologies Program” in the earthquake reconstruction site of ICIMOD at Dhungetar, Nuwakot from March 6 to 10, 2018. Five graduate students of Aalto University and three undergraduate Civil Engineering students of AITM were involved in the field research.

A Skype meeting was held between the team members in Finland and AITM on February 23, 2018 before the Finish team arrived in Kathmandu. A half-day workshop on the research was conducted at AITM on March 05, 2018 before the team went to the field site. Then, the team left for ICIMOD’s reconstruction site at Dhungetar, Nuwakot on the next day, carried out necessary research activities in the area and returned to Kathmandu on March 12, 2018. Mr. Govinda Joshi, Program Coordinator of ICIMOD Reconstruction Site at Dhungetar, provided all the necessary supports to the research team during its stay at the site. Another half-day workshop on the research was conducted on March 13, 2018 at AITM after the team returned to Kathmandu from the field work. The eight students in the team presented their research findings under different themes in the workshop.

This joint research provided ample opportunities for cultural as well as academic and research exchange between the students of Aalto University and AITM, and it was indeed a very good beginning of cooperation between the two institutions.
