Dr John Mace Grunsfeld, a prominent scientist and an NASA astronaut conducted a talk show on the topic “Science at NASA” on the premises of AITM seminar hall which was held on November 7, 2013.

At the beginning, Prof. Dr. Sriram Bhagut Mathe, Chairperson of AITM provided a short introduction of AITM, introduced the speaker and welcomed the speaker and the participants in the talk program. It was followed by a short introduction of “Regional visualization and monitoring system” by Mr. Basanta Shrestha, Head of MENRIS (Mountain Environment and Natural Resources’ Information System) division at International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). The floor was then handed to D. Grusnfeld. He started the talk by sharing his background, his childhood and his life achievements. He then discussed on several topics such as the changing face of world, convergence of technologies and global earth observation. He shed light on “What does NASA really do?” and then discussed on ways that human exploration and science go together. The current research carried out in this field and new technologies such as the “NASA development internship and NASA space challenge Hackathon” was also highlighted in his talk. The interesting talk was attended by over 100 participants including students, faculty members, staffs of AITM and representative from ICIMOD and other organizations. In the discussion session followed by the presentation, Dr. Grunsfeld clarified various concerns of the audience. The seminar was formally closed with a vote of thanks by Mr. Bibhushan Bista from Young Innovations. A token of appreciation was also handed to Dr. Grunsfeld on behalf of AITM.
