Nepal National Water Week 2014 (NNWW-2014) successfully completed

AITM partnered with several government, non-government and international non-governmental organizations to celebrate NNWW-2014 on the occasion of World Water Day (22 March) and World Meteorological Day (23 March). The event spanned during 17-27 March was led by Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS). The opening ceremony held on 17 March at the conference hall of Nepal Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) was inaugurated by Hon. Minister Ms. Radha Gyawali, Ministry of Energy. Out of many activities/events, AITM contributed significantly on organizing “5th National Groundwater Symposium”, moderating E-discussion on the theme “Operationalizing water-energy nexus in Nepal” and presenting its findings during the closing ceremony of NNWW-2014, and organizing AIT-led session on “Sustainable water resources management in Nepal: current research and future directions”. From AITM, Dr. Vishnu Prasad Pandey presented a paper titled “Characteristics, impacts and regulations of groundwater markets in Kathmandu Valley” in the “5th National Groundwater Symposium” and Dr. Madhav Narayan Shrestha chaired a session in the symposium. Dr. Pandey also moderated the E-discussion and presented its finding during closing ceremony, observed by Minister for Energy, Secretary of WECS, Secretary of Ministry of Irrigation, more than 10 member of parliaments, and representatives of several government agencies, NGOs and INGOs. Dr. Pandey also contributed a presentation titled “Vulnerability of freshwater resources in Nepalese river basins” in the AIT-led session, in which Mr. Pramod Pradhan, Director of AITM, also contributed as a panelist.
