Dr. Harry Clarke, a visiting professor at AITM and a professor of economics at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia delivered 11th Public Seminar at AITM on December 17, 2013. Dr. Ram Manohar Shrestha, Professor Emeritus of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Chairperson of AITM’s Academic Council, introduced the speaker and welcomed the participants in the program. Prof. Clarke’s talk on “Economics and Ethics” shed light on various ethical considerations in decision making and their links to economics. His inspiring lecture helped in broadening the knowledge on the current economic theories and alternative ethical viewpoints in science and philosophy. The role of ethical codes for economists was discussed and the new ways of thinking about altruism and environmental issues were also highlighted.

The seminar had nearly 30 participants including students, faculty members and staffs at AITM; faculty members and students from Kathmandu University; and other people from outside. The talk was followed by a discussion session. Prof. Clarke gave satisfactory clarifications to various questions from the participants. The seminar was formally closed with a vote of thanks from Prof. Dr. Sudarsan Raj Tiwari, co-chair of AITM’s Academic Council, followed by appreciation to Prof. Clarke with a token of love from AITM.
