AITM News and Events >> AITM felicitates Prof. C N R Rao, Eminent Scientist and Bharat Ratna Recipient

On 28 March 2016, AITM organized a welcome program to felicitate Prof. C.N.R. Rao, eminent scientist and recipient of Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India.  The conference hall was filled to the brim with scientists from Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Board Members of AITM, faculties and students, who were keen to listen to Prof Rao. In his welcome address, Prof. Sriram Bhagut Mathe, Chairperson of AITM, stated that it was an honour for AITM to welcome and felicitate such an eminent scientist. He highlighted briefly the many achievements and awards which Prof. Rao has received in over 60 years spent on research. Prof. C N R Rao delivered a very inspiring and motivational speech on recent research status and development in science and technology and exhorted the students to excel in whatever they do. He citied examples of Michael Faraday and Srinivasa Ramanujan, who, in spite of their low level of formal education excelled in their respective areas by dint of their scholastic enquiry and pursuit. Prof. Jib Raj Pokharel, Vice Chancellor, NAST, explained that Prof. Rao had been invited as the Chief Guest for 7th National Conference on Science and Technology and was happy that Prof. Rao could visit AITM in his tight schedule. Prof. Dr. Ranajit Sen, an invitee to NAST Conference, also emphasized the need for students to study well in their respective studies. Both of them expressed their views on recent developmental trends as well as scientific perceptions. Prof. Sudharshan Raj Tiwari, Co-chair of Academic Council, AITM, delivered the vote of thanks. At the end of the felicitation program, Prof. Mathe presented Token of Love to Prof Rao.
